The appeal of the Rector
Dear Sirs and Madams,
Dear students and PhD students,
After the announcement of the Government’s decision to suspend classes at universities, we are trying to adapt to the current situation.
Let us remember that we are a medical school, we rely on knowledge, not emotions.
We have a responsibility – we may have to go and help the sick. We have chosen this profession.
University authorities, in accordance with management principles, must assume the worst case scenario. This means that if after two weeks there is no change for the better, the restrictions will be maintained – maybe for a few months. Therefore, one cannot suspend education completely, but try to adapt. Otherwise, students will not finish the semester, they will not finish their studies, and the recruitment system will collapse.
We would also like to remind you that we did not close the University, we only canceled classes at the University and hospitals – until 25/03/2020.
I would like the holes in the programs to be as small as possible. We will try to expand the e-learning platforms as soon as possible and launch other remote didactics systems. Within two weeks we will also prepare solutions for tests and exams, in particular for the last years of study. We will also describe the rules of submitting students’ own work. We will keep you posted – maybe even every day. We have started working with the Ministry of Health on changing ECTS credits for distance learning and students’ own work.
Before we develop detailed rules, I am asking for the urgent setting up of mailing groups with lecturers. First of all, to determine the scope of students’ own work (e-learning lectures, presentations, range of textbook knowledge) and to contact us using e-mails and popular messengers. Let us try to apply it, treating it as a long-term solution, out of which many solutions will be implemented permanently.
– please comply with the recommendations contained in the Rector’s Regulations No. 20/2020 and 22/2020.
– please discontinue any travel in the coming weeks.
– in order to reduce the epidemiological risk, please handle current affairs via telephone and e-mail communication.
– we urge you to use only reliable sources of information about coronavirus, which you can find, e.g. by calling the helpline of the NFZ free hotline 800-190-590.
– we remind you to observe hygiene rules.
Dear students and PhD students,
Once again, I emphasize that the suspension of classes at the University and in hospitals is not synonymous with complete suspension of teaching and university activities. This is not free time, but a period that should be spent on learning or students’ own work.
The next few days are quarantine, which obliges you to stay at home so as not to infect others.
We must all show responsible behavior and keep in mind that non-compliance with the above stated rules puts not only you but also others at risk.
